About Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida
The Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida (SCGC) is an agricultural cooperative established in 1962 by 54 grower members in Palm Beach County, Florida. It now includes 45 small to medium-sized grower-owners who cultivate sugarcane on about 70,000 acres in the Everglades Agricultural Area. SCGC processes sugarcane into raw sugar and blackstrap molasses, distributing these products to dinner tables, restaurants, and food manufacturing facilities across the United States and internationally. SCGC produces between 350,000 to 400,000 tons of raw sugar annually, enough to supply over 9 million people. The cooperative offers integrated services such as sugarcane harvesting, transportation, milling, and marketing. It achieved full vertical integration in 2002 by acquiring Domino Sugar refining holdings. The cooperative emphasizes environmental stewardship, innovative farming practices, and community upliftment, ensuring equitable governance with one vote per grower, regardless of farm size.
